Ashes Rising
Ashes Rising ,2018, is a charcoal on paper mural; dimensions 8.5’x4’. It was created in response to my emotions in learning about the Canadian Indigenous Peoples historical legacy. Charcoal was used to signify the destruction and loss of Indigenous ways of life. Anishinaabe Animal symbolism combined with the Seven Teaching portrays the emotional release of conciliation and reconciliation. Two, 1’x1’, oil landscape paintings displayed beside the mural (see image below) play an important role within this art piece as they expresses restoration through art that promotes holism.
Ashes Rising was donated to the University of Manitoba and is seen here on display at 65 Dafoe Road.
